For the past several weeks, a team of representatives from the UPP and from Alfaisal University has been working toward bringing potential students and their parents to the Alfaisal University campus for an Open House.   The special event took place on Tuesday evening, May 26, 2009.  More than 200 interested students showed up, many with their parents and siblings, to learn about the University and the UPP.

Each of the four university colleges had a special table at which faculty and the dean of the college interacted with students and their parents.  There were also tables for the UPP, for the Admissions Office, and for Scholarships.   Many students came to learn about scholarship and entrance criteria.  Among the activities planned for the evening were a tour of the building, visits to the science labs where experiments were on display, meetings with the different colleges and their faculties, and a tour of the royal palace of the late King Faisal, which is part of the new Alfaisal University campus. 

All UPP faculty and staff attended the event.   Also, many UPP students participated to guide potential students on tours of the building, to display experiments in the science labs, and to talk with students and their parents about the UPP and Alfaisal University.  Tawfiq Abou Assale, a UPP student in the medical pathway, said, “The purpose of the Open House was to expose Alfaisal University and the UPP to the public and show the strengths and the ability to build professionals.”  Karam Hamweyah, a UPP student in the medical pathway, said of the Open House,  “As I held my position in the lab, I took my role seriously and introduced potential students to our labs.  I showed them how we got the chance to get our hands on different kinds of experiments in our different science courses.  We showed how the UPP is preparing us for success in whatever universities we choose to go to.”  Mohamed Al Sabbagh, another UPP student in the medical pathway, said, “The Open House was to show what AIfaisal University is all about, and to show how confident and strong the students are.  It was not just showing off the university but showing that we can build professionals who will contribute to society.”

The Open House lasted for two hours and involved many people.  Overall it was a successful event because it brought a large number of people together, it encouraged the sharing of important and useful information, and it presented Alfaisal University and the UPP in the beautiful and well equipped building as a viable option for high quality students to begin their higher education.

The UPP wishes to thank the team of representatives from Alfaisal University and the UPP who organized and promoted the event, the faculty and staff who participated by meeting potential students and their parents, and the UPP students who helped with the tours and the science experiments.
