Purpose
of Student Services
The purpose of Student Services at
the UPP is to round out students’ educational experience.
In order to be fully prepared for university study
after graduation, students need exposure to extracurricular
activities that stimulate their intellectual development,
allow them to develop hidden potentials, and present
opportunities for leadership development. Students
also need out-of-classroom assistance to get them
over academic hurdles and to provide extra academic
challenge.
Student services are conceptually divided
into two areas:
- Academic Support Services
- Extra-curricular Activities
Support services exist to meet the
needs of students so that they can succeed in their
class. The academic support services include academic
advising and counseling.
The extra-curricular activities consist of student
organizations, student government,
educational seminars, workshops
for skills development, and special activities
such as English contests and recreational
sports.
The door of the Student Services office
is always open. Students do not need an appointment
to see the Student Services Head. They can just walk
into the office. Because all students have lunch break
at the same time, the Student Services Head spends
the lunch hour in his office. About half of the students
who visit the office do so during lunch time. Students
can also visit the office during class breaks, before
classes start in the morning, and when classes finish
in the evening. In addition, all students can sign
out of their required weekly time in the Academic
Resource Center to visit the Student Services Head.
The UPP is a student-centered
program, and the office of Student Services is an
integral part of this commitment to assisting students
in any way possible.
